You just can't hold him down. . .

Gideon was so proud of himself after he learned to crawl he's decided he'd show off some more tricks he's learned. . .

Here he goes

Yep, he's learned to take off his own shirt!!   Yea, me!!

He's got it.

I'm hoping this doesn't last long considering it's between 10 degrees above and 10 below at my house all winter!

He sure is a cute baby though.

On September 10th 2008

Congratulations, Gideon.

He's a crawler

After weeks of hard work and a lot of effort.  Over a month of having toys taken away just to be set out of reach or across the room.  He's finally mastered a very important skill.  Gideon's a crawler...

Good Work, Son.

Happy Birthday, Ryker.

Poor Ryker, His mom is so mean.  I had him convinced we "Just couldn't afford his birthday this year!"  He was about in tears when I reminded him he has "A lot more birthdays' coming and maybe we'll be able to afford them later!"  I know I'm horrible. . .

We had a great time though,  And I don't think Ryker's "thick-skin" was to emotionally damaged.

I think he made a killing and collected enough loot to last till next year.   Thank-you Grandma and Grandpa Wilkins for the card, clothes and Transformer. Grandma Darlene for the clothes and card. Granny Mack for the card and money.  Great-Grandpa and Grandma Day for the Book.  Grandma Michelle for the socks and Books. Daddy Tucker and Erin for the Star Wars Lego set and Star Wars Lego Game cube game. Daddy and Momma for Everything.

Thank you.

Dolly and Gideon playing together.

Gideon was in his play-pen playing with his toys.  We put Dolly out on the 40 acres everyday with Daisy (our goat) so they can graze.  Dolly got interested in what I was doing.  So, she thought she'd come check it out.  (She and Daisy are totally domesticated, due to being bottle fed.)  So, they walked right up and stared at me for a while till they decided I was boring.  Grazing is much better.   She must not have seen Gideon in the play-pen until she got past me.  Because all of a sudden she did "The Spider!"  She startled and jumped so high it spooked me.  She took a couple steps backward and stared at him for a while.  Then walked up to see what he was doing.  He stared at her, She stared at him...

Hello Dolly Once they figured out that neither of them wanted to eat the other.  They started playing together.  They're just about the same age, 5 weeks apart!!  So, Gideon would put his hand up, and Dolly would lick it.  He'd pull his hand away and stare at her for a minute.  Then he'd put it back up, she'd lick it.  Or, she'd poke her nose into his hand...

I think he fell down..      So, she licked his head!!

   Dolly licks Gideon

I'm not really sure what they're looking at here!!

Rush Valley Rock Star

This is Pinky.

Pinky

I love this guy!!  I don't really know him, but isn't he cute?  We went to a party in Rush Valley this last weekend and he was playing.  I've seen him play before, at Ophir Days.  He plays guitar in a band called  "Dusty Rose."  So, drives a little pick-up, it's pink.  With pink roses painted on the rear fenders.  I just think he's awesome.  I wouldn't even try to guess how old he is.  But, look at his hands.  His hands make me think he was a much, much larger man,  In his time.

Pinky the "lady's man!!"  Here he's Two-Stepping with...  his girlfriend??  No one knew her.  So, of course after they left, together.  Gossip started and I guess rumor decided she was his girlfriend.  I got the feeling nobody really knew for sure!  But, in a small town, rumor is truth.  Rumor takes all of the facts and makes an 'educated decision!'  Then the rumor itself  becomes truth!   Unless it offends somebody, then it can be denied and the facts of the rumor are still debated and voted on to decide if the rumor still holds true.  The "Facts" are usually discussed by two or three like minded people at a time.   However, never discussed with the actual person involved.  I'm not from a small town,  So all of these "rules" are new to me!  But, if this rumor is true, she's a lucky woman!!

Big, Fat, Black Widow Spider.

Yea, Okay. So, we're outside cleaning up our farm. Cleaning out the grain shed. the lamb shed, the garage.  We wanted to get any wood planks stacked, old feeders organized.  ...just get ready for winter.  We save aluminum cans to recycle (Ryker's "get-rich-quick" plan!) We usually store the cans in old grain bags. So, we'd taken them out of the grain shed and piled them up behind our yard fence.  (It's a five foot high, cinder block wall) As Ryker sets one of the bags down, I hear him scream "Whoooa, Daaaaaadd"  Being a mother,  of course, I assume the worst and come running...

Black Widow

Ryker must've 'upset' her.  Because she came out MAD!!  Black Widows won't usually fight, they'll protect themselves, but they're not aggressive.  She was beyond aggressive, she was lookin' to kill.  We think she was making a nest to lay eggs or she was about to.  This picture isn't the best.  She doesn't look as big as she is, or "was!"  Her diameter was equal to a nickel.  She was one of the biggest Black Widow spiders I have ever seen.  She was big enough to give me an eerie feeling deep down in my bones.  I wish I were comfortable coexisting with all creatures.  But, I have to think of the lives of my children first.  I can't say I'd leave a rattle snake in my back yard either!!  So, Steve back-handed her with a shovel.

"Tink"

We got a new horse on the farm!! She is 3 years old.  She hasn't been started (started = taught how to ride) but was imprinted* as a foal and has been thoroughly desensitized.  She is beautiful.  She's a Grullo-dun.  Grullo (her coloring) is a little darker that buckskin, and dun means she has a stripe down she back.  She is a papered mare her Mother was a direct descendant of Dash for Cash.  Her Father is out of Poco Bueno.

Tink

Steve had been starting Daisy Mae (the mule) to trade work for this mare.  She is so sweet, and gentle.  That's amazing for as young as she is.  Jenny (Daisy's mom) must've spent a lot of time with her.  Like I said before she has been thoroughly desensitized, that means that she isn't sensitive to touch.  You can brush her down, rub her ears, pick her nose if you want to and she won't flinch.  She will be Eden's horse.  Eden doesn't know that yet, but we plan to give Eden the horse for her birthday.  I'm excited to have Steve start her.  I think she'll be an awesome 'kids' horse.  If you want to watch her progress being started I'll post her work on our business blog it is http://livinghorsemanship2008.spaces.live.com  I'm not sure when he plans to start her.  He has another horse lined up, that will be his last this year.  (unless we figure out how to afford a indoor arena!!)  He'll work the other horse from Sept. 5th through Oct. 5th.  After that we run out of daylight and it's between 5 and 15 below by 6 P.M.  So, he doesn't take other peoples horses.  He still works ours (weather permitting!) but won't take other people's because he has to be consistent, but can't guarantee that in the winter because of the snow.

*Imprinting n. A learning process occurring early in the life of a social animal in which a behavior pattern is established through association with a parent or other role model. -The American Heritage Dictionary.

Basically horse owners will touch a foal all over their body just hours after their born. We will hug around their mid-section (like a saddle) put our fingers across their tongues (like a bit) even put a halter on and take it off.
